Hermann Bridge Falling Down

The Scene around 8:45 am on April 29, 2007 at the Hermann Riverfront Park - 1,500 people attending.

Zoom - The crane which will pluck the center span from the main channel within 24 hours is retreating.

Zoom - Just plain luck to get the bridge falling - the demolition crew changed the schedule from
5 sounds of the horn and then 10 seconds to one sound of the horn and then the blast - 40 charges.

Zoom - When the bridge hit the water you finally heard the dynamite blast.

It all happened very quickly at 9:20 am, 20 minutes after the appointed time.

Zoom - Even with the river at flood stage quite a bit of the superstructure sticks out of the main channel.
Note that the northern pier of the old bridge got splashed with water.
By June 16, 2008 the piers and the rest of the superstructure of the old bridge should be gone.
